Alcan Global ATI signed agreements to supply airlines with new low density alloys for aircraft construction. One such deal was with Bombardier to supply the advanced aluminium-lithium alloy technology for its new CSeries aircraft. Alcan Global ATI said the alloy would comprise more than 20 per cent of all materials used in Bombardier's much-vaunted plane.
The CSeries was officially announced two years ago and deliveries of the next-generation passenger jet are to begin in 2013.
Alcan Global ATI says its materials will contribute to a 20 per cent fuel consumption advantage for CSeries and reduced emissions.
Alcan Global ATI also announced a contract agreement with Airbus through to 2020 to supply the same technology for the A350 XWB aircraft.
